Shippy Moment of the Day: "Never with You, Tim" (NCIS)

McGee Apologizes to Abby
"Driven" from NCIS Season 4

Recap: The episode opens with a hilarious scene about sexual harassment in the workplace, essentially telling us that one must ask before touching another. (Key line: "Why are you touching dead naked people?")

Later in the episode, McGee is so immersed in looking at computer code that he doesn't notice that Abby has tripped a program in the artificial intelligence car she has been working on and is being suffocated. Gibbs saves her, much to the shock, horror, and guilt of McGee.

The Moment:

McGee had such good hair in Season 4. Seriously.
Seasons 1-3, too short. 5, too long. Season 4? Just right.

McGee: I did it, Abby. I know how they got in.

She seems so touched that he can sense her.

Abby (entering): How did you know I was here?
McGee: I didn't. Abby, I'm sorry for--
Abby: I know.

He feels so badly about what happened that he at first
is in shock that she's hugging him...

McGee: Thought you were supposed to ask for permission first.
Abby: Never with you, Tim.

...and then is so touched and comforted that he tightens her embrace.
And Abby has the cutest, most sincere smile on her face.

Thoughts: Oh, how I love my McAbby. Why I love this scene so much is because it shows how well they understand each other. We see them in the lab communicating wordlessly while working out a problem (heck, they can type together!), but here is the rare moment of showing how they work together on an emotional level. McGee is distraught about how he nearly let Abby DIE because he wasn't paying attention and Abby doesn't need to hear any of that. She just hugs him. Just a beautiful, simple scene that conveys how deeply they feel for each other.

Plus, she actually uses his first name. No one calls him Tim. When they do use his first name, it's usually Timmy or Timothy. It just shows a personalization, and also respect.

A really, really good episode overall. Plus, we get singing Tony:
